Desktop runtime & workspace
A real native app, not a browser wrapper. MongoQUI ships as a Tauri 2 shell that launches a compiled Python sidecar per install, so every MongoDB call stays on your machine. Deep-link URLs, update notifications and a master-password lock come as standard across macOS, Windows and Linux.
Tauri 2 native shell
macOS (separate Apple Silicon and Intel builds), Windows x86_64, Linux x86_64 (.deb + AppImage). Single-instance lock and drag-drop disabled by default for safety.
Offline Python sidecar
A PyInstaller-compiled FastAPI backend runs on a dynamic port per launch, handles every MongoDB I/O locally, and shuts down cleanly when you close the window or quit.
Argon2id master password
Locks the desktop UI behind an Argon2id hash stored in the OS app-data dir. No cloud round-trip to unlock the desktop app.
Update notifications
The app checks the signed release manifest at downloads.mongoqui.com and shows an in-app banner. You choose when to download and install.
Deep-link protocol (mongoqui://)
Register once, open any saved connection, report or team invite straight from a browser link.
Native app menu
App menu with About, Check for Updates, Settings, Hide and Quit, plus Edit, Window and Help menus.
Tab workspace
Per-tab query and view state. Free keeps 3 open tabs, Basic 10, Pro 25, Ultimate is unlimited.
Command history and keyboard shortcuts

Shell workflow & SQL translator
A real shell, not a toy. Three execution modes (in-process, persistent session and cloud fallback), automatic command classification, prefetched pagination. Plus a SQL to MongoDB translator that accepts joins and emits idiomatic aggregations in eight target languages.
Normal mode (in-process)
Commands execute inside the bundled py-backend using the compiled mongosh binary.
Realtime mode (persistent session)
A persistent shell session that keeps variables and cursors across commands. Used by scripts and long investigations.
Cloud shell (web app)
In the browser there is no local mongosh, so shell commands run on a managed mongosh function. The desktop app runs mongosh locally.
Command classifier
Auto-routes find, insert, update, delete and admin commands to the right execution path with post-processing detection.
Keyset and offset pagination
Transparent next-page prefetching for large result-sets. No manual skip/limit tuning.
SQL to MongoDB translator
SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE and multi-table joins. Output is idiomatic MongoDB aggregation stage ordering.
8-language driver snippets
Python, Python (Motor), Node.js, Node.js (Mongoose), Java, C#, Go, Rust. Powered by @mongoqui/query-to-language.
Execute mongosh commands
Run arbitrary shell commands directly inside the app. No separate terminal, no context switch.
Report Builder
BI that understands MongoDB documents. Turn any aggregation into a pixel-perfect dashboard, share it read-only with colleagues or clients, password-protect and expire it, and re-run on fresh data with one click. No Looker, no separate warehouse, no Compass export dance.
One-click re-run
Refresh any report against live MongoDB. Charts, KPIs and shared links update atomically. Pro refreshes each report up to once an hour; Ultimate refreshes on demand.
Serverless analytics
Columnar snapshots in object storage, in-memory SQL engine on a 2 GB serverless function with a 60-second timeout.
Eight block types
Table, bar, line, pie, doughnut, KPI, text and image on a 12-column grid canvas. Chart.js under the hood with themed colours.
AI Report Assistant
Schema-aware BI suggestions. Drafts the SQL query, picks the chart type, writes the narrative.
Shareable read-only viewer
No install, no account required for viewers. Runs in any browser.
Share by user, email, link or public
Grant access to internal users, external emails, signed links or a fully public page, all revocable.
Password-protected share links
Salted PBKDF2-SHA256 password hash, expiry timestamp, instant revoke. Only the hash and salt are stored.
Share-link edit gating
Share-link edit actions (AI suggestions, data refresh) need edit permission plus a password unlock or signed-in session. Only the report owner can delete a report.
Link expiry and revoke
Share links can carry an expiry timestamp, and the report owner can turn a link off at any time.
Cached response store
Report queries cache to object storage for fast repeat loads, with manual invalidation on re-run.
Teams, RBAC & collaboration
A workspace, not just an app. Invite teammates, share connections safely, run TOTP 2FA, scope roles per connection, and manage MongoDB users and roles directly on Ultimate. Every action is logged.
Shared connections
AES-256-encrypted credentials (ENCRYPTION_KEY). Teammates use the connection without seeing the secret.
Organisation management
Plan seats, ownership, per-org settings and billing from a single place.
Invite and remove team members
Pro: up to 10 seats. Ultimate: unlimited. Accept-invite flow handled via verify-invite route.
Admin / Editor / Viewer roles
Built-in roles plus custom role creation. Per-connection scoping covers database, collection, read and write.
TOTP two-factor auth
Backed by otplib 12.0.1 in the auth service. QR enrolment handled inside the desktop app.
Org-scoped audit log
Account and team events recorded with actor, organisation, category and timestamp: invites, role and seat changes, 2FA changes and shared-connection edits.
Shared saved queries and folders
Saved queries and connection folders sync across teammates once shared.
Elevated-permission gating
Share-link edit actions such as AI suggestions and data refresh need edit permission plus a password unlock or signed-in session.
MongoDB RBAC management
Create and edit MongoDB users and roles directly on your cluster. No mongosh round-trip. Ultimate only.
AI assistant & rate limits
Schema-aware and rate-limited for cost sanity. Nothing runs until you press Run. Runs on our managed AI service, so there are no API keys to set up and no separate AI bill.
Natural language to MongoDB

Managed AI service
Included with the plan. No API keys to set up and no separate AI bill.
Rate limit · requests
10 requests per minute per user.
Rate limit · tokens

Per-query cache
3,600-second cache on identical prompts to keep repeat costs down.
Schema context injection
Ships the connection's schema summary so the AI references real fields, not hallucinated ones.
Review before run
Generated queries and pipelines land in the editor for review. Nothing runs until you press Run.
Security, privacy & compliance
Every control you would expect from a database client handling production credentials, plus the ones most of our competitors skip. Documented and enforced in code. The SOC 2 Type II audit is in progress; nothing here is certified yet.
Argon2id master password
Locks the desktop app behind an Argon2id-hashed master password. Saved connection credentials are encrypted at rest on your machine, never stored in plaintext.
AES-256-GCM shared credentials
Team-shared connection credentials are encrypted with AES-256-GCM at rest in the control plane. Teammates use the connection without ever seeing the raw secret.
JWT with org scope
Every cloud API call carries Authorization: Bearer plus x-organization-id. Verified at the edge.
TOTP 2FA
Enrolment inside the app. Backed by otplib in the auth service.
Internal service auth
Service-to-service calls use authenticated headers. No anonymous internal traffic.
Rate limiting
Rate limits on sign-in and account routes, AI generation and report suggestions.
CORS allow-list
Explicit origin allow-list on every authenticated API. Only public blog images use a wildcard origin.
Org-wide audit log
Account and team events (invites, role, seat and 2FA changes, shared-connection edits) recorded with actor, category and timestamp.
Password-protected share links
Salted PBKDF2-SHA256 hash, expiry timestamp, instant revoke. Per-share, not per-workspace.
GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA
Designed to comply. Data subject access, export and deletion requests via privacy@mongoqui.com. DPA on request. No third-party attestation.
SOC 2 audit in progress
Type II engagement underway. Contact for current status. Do not treat as certified yet.
